My Learning journey - Part 2

Building on our previous post, our second line of inquiry delved into embedded practices, dowry statistics and case studies, the timeline of women's rights, and the life and experiences of Maya Angelou, among other topics.

( Second line of inquiry: embedded practices in societies)

Next, in our third line of inquiry, we visited 2 places: BZU and VAWC.

In Bahauddin Zakariya University ( BZU ) we met a professor who teaches sharia laws about families over there. We asked him a few questions and recorded an interview.

Secondly, in violence against women center, we met a psychologist who told us and gave a tour of the whole center.

We had lots of fun and we learned a lot in both of the trips.

Additionally, we started a table talk series in our 1st line of inquiry and it ended till our third line of inquiry. We formulated questions and interviewed a few teachers as well as the professor in BZU.

ACTION PLAN:

We wanted to make a product that lasted long with people and reminded them of our exhibition, so we decided to make a box. The box contained customized tote bags, keychains, diaries, laptop bags, calendars, and candles.
In our order to celebrate women’s sacrifices and strengths, we distributed cupcakes and bookmarks and our action plan is inspired by that.

Exhibition-Dowry

PYP - EXHIBITION Exhibition is a project and an event where learners choose a real life issue and share their understanding by performances, social media blogs and more. After 6 months of researching by taking interviews, surveys, field visits, hands on activities and internet. Children also have to pick an IB action type ( advocacy, social justice, social entrepreneurship, participation and lifestyle choices) to represent their work. The exhibition helps learners to develop skills such as critical thinking, communication and collaboration. PYP exhibition is very important because it helps the learners develop skills and attributes that are essential for lifelong learning and becoming global citizens. Unwrapping the Central Idea

We have made our Newslatter and our Central Idea is customs and traditions define our identity. We had a session with our mentor Miss Fizza, in which we unwrapped our Central Idea step by step. Here is what we did in our session...... Customs: Customs are long-established practices within a society or community. Examples of customs: Shaking hands while greeting. Shoes off the door Traditions: Traditions are the customs, beliefs, and practices that are passed down from one generation to another within a group of people or society. ATL's: Approaches to learning Approaches to learning ( ATL's ) are a set of skills and strategies that aim to help learners self regulated and become life long learners. ATL skills Thinking skills Communication skills Social skills Research skills Self-Management skills These skills are further divided into Sub skills. Workshops: PYP-5 have workshops before exhibition that specially talks about techniques and skills. We also have interesting activities to understand the ATLs in a better way.
