Dowry- It's origin, purpose and the impact of awareness

1.  How did the practice of dowry originate, and how has its purpose changed over time in different cultures? Dowry's beginnings are unclear, but it started in the pre-colonial era. It could include things like land or money for her new life of a bride.  Over time, in many places, dowry changed. Instead of helping the bride, it became a demand for money or valuable gifts from her family, often by the groom's family. This can cause huge financial problems and even violence if the bride's family can't pay. While dowry might still be a small, symbolic gift in some cultures, in others, it's become a harmful practice that treats women unfairly. 2.   1. How gender roles have evolved over time in Pakistan and U. S ? PAK: Traditionally, Pakistani society largely confined women to the home, but times are changing. With having better access to education and employment, women are now visible in various professions, including politics. Although challenges remain, especially in rural areas, there's a growing push for equality. The change is gradual, with certain sectors progressing faster than others, but the overall direction is towards more opportunities for women. U.S: In the US, gender roles have been changed over the years. Historically, women were often limited to housework, while men worked outside the home. However, the 20th century brought about big changes, with women increasingly entering the workforce, pursuing higher education, and pushing for equal rights. Exploring Challenges Through Interviews

 EXPLORING CHALLENGES THROUGH INTERVIEWS  By analyzing and collecting real life perspectives I explored my chosen topic ( Gender inequality-dowry) even more. I did this by formulating five open ended questions and asking those questions from my mother and teacher . The questions 1. Where do we see gender discrimination in our daily lives? 2. Define gender discrimination  3. What is the islamic point of view of dowry? 4. Are there any cultural, social or economic reasons for dowry practice 5. Does lack of dowry affects a daughter's life in the future? 

Unwrapping the Central Idea

We have made our Newslatter and our Central Idea is customs and traditions define our identity. We had a session with our mentor Miss Fizza, in which we unwrapped our Central Idea step by step. Here is what we did in our session...... Customs: Customs are long-established practices within a society or community.  Examples of customs:  Shaking hands while greeting.   Shoes off the door    Traditions: Traditions are the customs, beliefs, and practices that are passed down from one generation to another within a group of people or society. They often have symbolic meaning or special significance and can be vital  part of cultural expression and folklore. Examples of traditions:  Festivals Bedtime routines Clothing Music and dance
