Gender Roles - How they have evolved over time

1. How gender roles have evolved over time in Pakistan and U. S ?

PAK:

Traditionally, Pakistani society largely confined women to the home, but times are changing. With having better access to education and employment, women are now visible in various professions, including politics. Although challenges remain, especially in rural areas, there's a growing push for equality. The change is gradual, with certain sectors progressing faster than others, but the overall direction is towards more opportunities for women.

U.S:

In the US, gender roles have been changed over the years. Historically, women were often limited to housework, while men worked outside the home. However, the 20th century brought about big changes, with women increasingly entering the workforce, pursuing higher education, and pushing for equal rights. Today despite some remaining inequalities, especially in pay and leadership, women now hold all sorts of jobs, from CEO to astronaut, showing a big shift towards greater gender equality and a wider range of acceptable roles for both men and women.

2.
Compare traditional perspectives with modern viewpoints about gender roles

Traditional Pakistani views often confine women to domestic roles, while men are seen as providers. Modern viewpoints, fueled by education and opportunity, increasingly challenge this, with women entering diverse fields. Though progress is being made, especially in urban areas, traditional perspectives still hold significant influence, particularly in rural areas. , making the shift towards equality a gradual one.

3. Factors that have contributed to change for gender roles

Several things have come together to make people more aware of and willing to act against gender inequality including…

  • Global awareness.

  • Media and technology.

  • Feminist movements and activism.

  •  Increased access to education for women.

My Reflection of the visit to VAWC

We visited the VAWC as part of our community outreach for our exhibition. Over there we met Miss Hira (psychologist) who explained us very thoroughly and we got to explore the whole center. She even explained us a lot about domestic violence. I found it very interesting. We also got a chance to see some victims who were there to report their case. To address violence against women, a specialized center was created in 2017, in line with the 2016 Punjab Protection of Women Against Violence Act. This facility consolidates legal, judicial, medical, and psychological services, offering a holistic support system for victims.  In this center there are 4 different departments: The Police, Prosecution, Medical and Psychological. The Police Department: The Women Police Station of VAWC is an advanced and amazing police station. It includes reporting, FIR lodging and investigating. Furthermore, It has 2 detention areas, 1 for men and the other for women. It has a link with other police st...

Exhibition-Dowry

PYP - EXHIBITION Exhibition is a project and an event where learners choose a real life issue and share their understanding by performances, social media blogs and more. After 6 months of researching by taking interviews, surveys, field visits, hands on activities and internet. Children also have to pick an IB action type ( advocacy, social justice, social entrepreneurship, participation and lifestyle choices) to represent their work. The exhibition helps learners to develop skills such as critical thinking, communication and collaboration. PYP exhibition is very important because it helps the learners develop skills and attributes that are essential for lifelong learning and becoming global citizens. My exhibition topic is gender inequality. I will be sharing my journey on @blogger.com and @instagram.com.  My topic's IB td theme is who we are.
